‘What is Irlen Syndrome’?

Does your student/child have reading, spelling, writing, maths or concentration difficulties?

Jo Starke will be giving a presentation on:-

- Irlen Syndrome and how it can affect reading, writing, spelling, maths, concentration, headaches, migraines, visual-spatial and sensory processing and how it can be a part of the puzzle of the symptoms of Dyslexia and Autism.

- Treatment and colour filter therapy.

Jo Starke had approximately 15 years teaching experience before training as an Irlen Diagnostician. Her teaching experience included mainstream primary education mainly in years 2, 3 & 4 mainly in special needs ranging from dyslexia, autism, language disorders, cerebral palsy, intellectual and physical disabilities, hearing impairment and visual impairment.

In 1998 Jo trained as an Irlen Diagnostician in Perth and has also completed the International Diploma of the Irlen Institute. Over the last 20 years she has been assisting children and adults with dyslexia, autism, sensory integration disorders, visual-spatial problems, poor depth perception, anxiety, depression, headaches and migraines and maths difficulties. Jo has also been involved in many conferences overseas and updating and upskilling of Irlen qualifications.

Jo works at Dyslexia & Irlen Clinic SW in Mandurah, Perth, Bunbury and south west and she assesses people/children having indications of  dyslexia and Irlen Syndrome.

 Presentation by Dr Paul Swan

 

Making the Most of Warm Ups.

In this session Paul will present a variety of simple 5 – 10 min warm ups. This session will include a strong focus on literacy elements of the warm ups and ways to keep the whole class engaged. Three aspects of warm ups will be discussed ‘yesterday, today and tomorrow'.

 

Dr. Paul Swan has taught mathematics in both primary and secondary schools and worked as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education at Edith Cowan University in Australia for 18 years. He has written over 50 books, authored numerous journal articles and created many types of mathematics manipulative materials. Dr. Swan supports improvement in the teaching of mathematics, in schools and across whole school systems (State, Catholic and Independent).
